In recent years, the increased understanding of the neurological and biopsychosocial aspects of trauma has resulted in the development of more effective approaches to recovery from the impact of trauma. These findings integrate well with a holistic Adlerian therapeutic approach, which focuses particularly on the skills of ensuring safety and stability, developing dual attention and building on the person’s resources and social connection.
This highly practical and skills based workshop, relevant to all mental health practitioners, will introduce the following:
Anthea Millar is a BACP Senior Accredited Counsellor and Psychotherapist with 33 years’ experience. She has a busy therapy and supervision practice, and regularly provides trauma therapy and supervision training in both in the UK and abroad.
Anthea has extensive experience in trauma work and has undertaken specialist trainings with Babette Rothschild, Bessel van der Kolk, Daniel Siegel, and other key trauma therapists, and in the use of EMDR. She is author of the JIP article ‘Trauma Therapy: An Adlerian Perspective’ (Fall 2013) and the 2017 UK Year Book article ‘Trauma, Connection and Recovery’.
Anthea is a co-director of Cambridge Supervision Training, and co-author of the book ‘Practical Supervision: How to become a supervisor for the helping professions’ (Jessica Kingsley 2014). She is also a Vice President of the Adlerian Society UK (ASIIP), a co-editor of the ASIIP journal, and on the faculty of ICASSI, an international Adlerian summer school.

There is an exciting opportunity available to you this year that you may not have heard about yet.
As this year the Adlerian Network of Ireland is celebrating its 25th anniversary of Summer Schools we have gathered together international and Irish experts in their field to teach here in Clonmel Co. Tipperary, July 14th – 17th.
It is unlikely that we will have this many trainers gathered together again or at least not until our 50th!
As you may be aware we will not be holding our annual Summer School this year as ICASSI (International Committee of Adlerian Summer Schools and Institutes) are hosting the International Summer School in DCU Dublin from July 28th to August 8th 2015
It is with great pleasure that the Adlerian Network of Ireland welcomes Dr. Karen John to facilitate a two day workshop on the Mental Health Needs of Children and Youth 8th and 9th April 2017.
Dr. Karen John has over 40 years’ experience in mental health and has created and delivered this workshop throughout the UK over the past 11 years. This workshop was first developed for CAMHS in Devon and offered to other local authorities and an England-wide organisation Family Action. She is a Consultant/Trainer in Research, Evaluation & Managing for Quality; Child & Adult Mental Health (MH) & Wellbeing, Family Support & Education; Organisation & Leadership Development. THE WORKSHOP
In this two day (14 hour) workshop participants will explore the mental health, emotional and development needs of our children and youth. They will gain a better understanding of ways to promote the well-being of children and youth. Through various means Dr. John will aid the participants to simple solutions to difficult situations you may experience with children and youth of today, including demystify diagnostic labels and focusing on the relationship between social context, authority structures, unmet needs and behaviour.
Professionals such as Social Workers, Youth Workers, School Counsellors, Speech Therapist, Nurses, Teachers, SNA’s Counsellors, Psychologists, Foster Carers, will benefit greatly from Karen John’s wealth of experience.
